Hawaii Island Retreat
Kapa'au, Hawaii
Elegant and earth-friendly, Hawaii Island Retreat is an eco-boutique hotel and spa located near the small country village of Hawi, in the historic district of North Kohala on the Big Island. A place of intentional peacefulness set among native evergreens, Hawaii Island Retreat is surrounded by 50 acres of private gardens including avocado and lychee orchards, wild forest groves, ocean vistas, ancient valley trails, and legendary council stones. The local place name, Ahu Pohaku Ho'omaluhia, means "The Gathering Place of Peace-giving Stones."
Elegant accommodations are designed in complete harmony with nature. Nine large, airy rooms, named for the antique Saxon prints of tropical flowers, incorporate soothing colors and gleaming dark hardwood floors. Each has a generous bathroom with large soaking tub and separate shower. Rooms average 375-450 square feet and are decorated with antique Hawaiian furniture from a century ago. All have private balconies or garden terraces with views of the fragrant larger gardens, valley or ocean. Amenities include fresh flowers, luxurious bedding, CD player with iPod dock, soft organic bamboo robes and organic toiletries. Wireless Internet access is available in the public areas. The Maluhia Spa offers Hawaiian treatments and therapies such as lomi lomi massage and features a salt-purified infinity pool and hot tub available for guests' use.
