Location of Adventure
Group Size Limit
Approximately 10 Travelers
We purposefully limit our group sizes for all of our trips, and this is especially true for our photographic adventures. With only 10 travelers, you’re assured of plenty of space and plenty of personalized attention when you need it. As a small group, we can be nimble, and position ourselves to maximize the best photo opportunities, and to get out early in search of the best light and the best subject matter.
Our Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land Cruisers
Our Private Leaders
Internal flights and train, accommodations, all meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on Day 14 (except dinner on Days 7 & 10), bottled water, services of NHA Photo Expedition Leader (specific leaders subject to change), local guides and lodge staff, some gratuities, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, kayaking at Fox Island, permits and entrance fees, all taxes.
Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, dinner on Days 7 & 10, alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance.
Physical Requirements
The activities on our Alaska wildlife photography adventure are diverse. The longest required walk is two miles roundtrip over a relatively flat wooden boardwalk to Brooks Falls in Katmai, for the purpose of observing and photographing the brown bears. Trails surfaces for our various walks vary, from paved to uneven natural terrain. While all travelers must be able to walk at least two miles, some longer hikes are available for those who desire. Our kayaking activity on Fox Island involves paddling for approximately two hours in conditions that are typically quite calm. We stress that travelers are not required to participate in every activity, but all participants must be able to walk two miles.
Important Information About This Trip
This trip ventures far afield from the typical Alaska tour where buses move long lines of cruise clients to crowded destinations. We focus on the wildlife, specifically the bears, which, naturally, should be treated with caution and respect. You will always be in the company of our expert naturalists and professional photographers who will coach you with techniques that yield the best shots, and provide insight and wisdom on bear behavior which is critical to anticipating the action.  The day traveling from Denali to Talkeetna is rather long (about 10 hours), but covers beautiful scenery and you travel by bus and train. Accommodations at Brooks Lodge are with two bunk-beds, separated by gender (or couples) and private facilities in each cabin. Solar power is available during daytime hours at Kenai Wilderness Lodge. All of our Ultimate Alaska programs begin in Fairbanks and end in Anchorage.
Mandatory Insurance
Getting There & Getting Home
This trip begins in Fairbanks and ends in Anchorage. Arrive in Fairbanks, Alaska by 4pm on Day 1 of the program as we will have a 6pm orientation followed by a 7pm dinner. You are free to depart Anchorage anytime on the final day. We can best serve you if our Natural Habitat Adventures Travel Desk makes your reservations, as we are intimately familiar with the special requirements of this program and can arrange the most efficient travel. Please call us at 1-800-543-8917. Note that while we offer you the best possible rates available to us on airfare and additional nights' accommodations, you may find special web rates or better fares online.
