Botswana's Green Season Photo Safari

Capture Outstanding Wildlife Images when the Desert and Delta are Most Verdant
Join accomplished photographers and premier naturalist guides on an adventure designed to reveal Botswana’s abundant wildlife and staggeringly diverse ecosystems, from the fossilized salt pans of the Kalahari Desert to the emerald marshes and sprawling channels of the Okavango Delta. Photograph wildlife in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve as it bursts to life during brief summer rains: lush grasses lure throngs of wildebeest, springbok, gemsbok and other prey, while the region’s legendary black-maned lion, cheetah and other predators follow in close pursuit. In the Linyanti, explore diverse habitat encompassing vast floodplains and acacia forests, savoring ample opportunities to capture images of Africa’s legendary animals in action!

Trip Highlights

  • Hone your wildlife photography skills with expert guidance from our top photo-safari Expedition Leader, as we spend unhurried time in three secluded reserves, including the vast Kalahari
  • Special photo-oriented features include our smallest groups and sunrise/sunset wildlife drives to capture the best light—plus evocative skies at this time of year
  • Capture superlative wildlife photos as we explore varied ecosystems from open 4x4 safari vehicles and on foot, home to some of Africa's largest game and predator concentrations
What Makes Our Botswana Photo Safari So Exceptional?
Botswana’s prolific wildlife is legendary, so it’s no wonder it’s a top destination for photography-focused African safaris. There’s nothing like seeing it during the “green season,” when fresh rains bring new grass and new animal life. When you travel to Botswana with us, you can be assured you'll get the Africa images of your dreams, because we insist on a number of key photo safari features that not every company includes. Take a look:

  1. Our Small Groups Are Capped at Just 8 Travelers
Our very small group size means quiet, intimate encounters with wildlife. You won’t have to jockey for position to get great photos. And you’ll have the close attention and personalized photography guidance of our Safari Expedition Leader every step of the way.
  2. A Diverse Itinerary Tailored for Photography
Our itinerary highlights Botswana’s tremendous range of ecosystems, from the dessicated salt pans of the Kalahari to the flooded Okavango Delta. Such diverse environments means a plethora of varied wildlife – you won't find such an array of potential subjects on a less wide-ranging safari. And unlike standard trips, we stay far afield of tourist areas, opting instead for remote and secluded camps that maximize our proximity to wildlife. Add to this our “green season” departure dates, and you’ll also maximize your chances for great photos of newly birthed young.
  3. A Guaranteed Window Seat and Plenty of Room
Nothing matters more on a photo safari than a window seat for clear access to great shots. While our safari vehicles have 10 cushioned passenger seats, we take just 4 travelers in each vehicle on wildlife drives to ensure maximum comfort, viewing and photo opportunities. This means there’s also plenty of room for your gear. Furthermore, the three rows of seats are tiered — those in the rear sit up higher so that no one’s forward view is impaired.
  4. Maximize Photo Opportunities on Private Reserves
The Moremi Game Reserve is Botswana’s most renowned wildlife destination. Yet guests who stay within the public park boundaries must adhere to regulations that limit photo prospects, such as returning to camp by sunset. By staying in secluded locales on adjacent private reserves, we avoid other travelers, and we enjoy more freedom and flexibility for early and late wildlife drives when the light is best.
  5. Enjoy Walking Safaris for Intimate Photography
There's no way better way to experience the full sensory experience of the African bush than on foot. In private reserves we can take guided bush walks that offer a chance to photograph the subtle wonders of nature – an exclusive option not available to guests who stay within the public reserves.
  6. Private Verandas Maximize Photo Opportunities
Our luxury safari camps feature deluxe tents with private verandas so that guests never miss a chance to photograph animals that may wander past!
  7. Chartered Flights with Extra Luggage Allowance
Charter flights (rather than long drives over rough dirt roads) between most safari locations allow us to spend more time taking photos on safari, rather than in tiring transit. And, we provide an additional baggage allowance for all your camera gear – a real plus when you start comparing operators and options.
  8. The World's Finest Naturalist Guides
NHA takes pride in hiring the world’s finest naturalist guides – and on our special photo tour departures, they are also among the finest photographers in Africa! Your guide is with you from start to finish, by your side to share in-depth knowledge of the African bush, plus tips and pointers on getting the best possible photos. Our NHA Safari Expedition Leaders average 15 years' guiding experience, with additional training and resources provided by WWF’s top scientists. See Photo Expedition Leader bios and traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
