Ultimate Churchill

A total immersion into the world of the polar bear and the Northland!

Trip Overview
  • View polar bears in their natural habitat outside of Churchill, Manitoba
  • Experience the vast frozen wilderness by tundra vehicle, helicopter and dog sled
  • Meet the native peoples of Hudson Bay and experience their age-old traditions

This Churchill polar bear expedition offers a total immersion into the world of the polar bear and the Canadian Far North. Our warm, self-contained tundra vehicles take us into the icy wild to view polar bears as they hunt, play and interact, entertaining us just feet away from our windows. But our adventure travel tour doesn’t end there: We’ll also helicopter to the bears’ denning area and experience the northern boreal wilderness by dog sled. When night falls, watch for the swirling colors of the aurora borealis, as vivid here as any place on earth. “Ultimate Churchill” offers the ultimate arctic polar bear tour.

A polar bear expedition with Natural Habitat Adventures requires very little to no walking. Polar Rovers can sometimes offer a bumpy ride.

Important Information about This Trip

This trip is designed for guests who want the fullest experience of the North. We have included daytime tundra vehicle trips to see polar bears, a nighttime excursion (with the possibility to view the Northern Lights), dogsledding and a helicopter flight. During our years of experience in Churchill we have forged intimate relationships with the local people, including native Inuit who will teach our guests about the culture, lifestyle and history of the Arctic. Regarding polar bears in general: Polar bears are typically in the Churchill area all year round. The highest concentration occurs in Oct. and Nov. Sometimes the best viewing is in the beginning of the season, sometimes the middle and sometimes the end - we never know for sure. The bears are waiting for Hudson Bay to freeze, and when it does, many of them depart. Historically, this has been in early December, but an unusually early cold spell may occur, hastening their departure.

Getting There & Getting Home
In case of flight or weather delays, we recommend that you arrive a day early and either participate in our Extra Day in Winnipeg program or stay on your own. Our trip begins with a 7:00 pm welcome dinner on Day 1. You are free to depart at any time on the final day.

Proof of Citizenship

All U.S. citizens must carry a valid passport or passport card to enter Canada. Birth certificates and other government-issued photo IDs are no longer accepted for entry.
