Why does Natural Habitat Adventures produce some of its sustainable gear in China?
As a thoughtful and purposeful company, we take this question very seriously. China is indeed a country with a history of human rights and environmental violations and it concerns us greatly. However, through our partner company, Gaiam, who is one of the world’s largest suppliers of sustainable goods, we have worked diligently to produce some of the best and most environmentally sensitive products in modern and safe fair trade Chinese factories. Not only does this reward factories who perform in a fair and safe manner, it encourages other factories, both in China and elsewhere, to improve in order to gain business from caring foreign clients. Further, we carbon "offset" emissions from all shipping (and everything we do at Natural Habitat!) to neutralize greenhouse gases. In short, we take our responsibilities seriously and, through carefully taken actions, we hope to minimize our effect on the environment as a result of our operations and promote positive change in the places it is needed most.
