Lodge-Based Galapagos Adventure

A Wildlife Odyssey Overnighting at a Luxury Safari Camp & Seaside Hotels
Looking for an alternative to the classic Galapagos boat tour? Here’s an expertly guided trip with minimal time at sea, when comfort is a primary consideration. You’ll whisk between islands by speedboat, spend your days exploring ashore on foot, then retire at night in relaxing seaside inns and our luxury camp in the highlands. Fantastic snorkeling awaits, too—swim with penguins, turtles and playful sea lions! The Galapagos Islands provide endless opportunities to see the world anew, just as Charles Darwin did on his visit here in 1835. You never know what you'll discover along each trail, beneath the sea, in each encounter with the fearless creatures that inspired Darwin so many years ago... Join us in the Enchanted Isles to find out!

Trip Highlights

  • Experience the renowned wildlife of the Galapagos while based in comfortable, intimate boutique accommodations ashore
  • Overnight at some of the newest and finest private lodges in the islands, including a luxury safari camp in the highlands of Santa Cruz
  • Hike, snorkel and discover secluded beaches with our Expedition Leaders in areas that yacht-based Galapagos itineraries often miss

You Won't Find a Better Land-Based Galapagos Trip!
Among nature travel destinations, the Galapagos Islands are renowned for close-up encounters with unique wildlife. Most visitors see the archipelago's unique flora and fauna on a boat-based cruise — but what if you're the type of traveler who isn't keen on sleeping aboard? Do you worry you may miss out on the islands' rich diversity if you opt for a land-based trip? Well, put that concern to rest when you travel with Nat Hab, because our lodge-based Galapagos adventure ensures in-depth experience of the islands, with the same expert level of guiding and interpretation from our superlative Expedition Leaders. Not to mention a number of features you won't get on a solely cruise-focused itinerary!

  1. Visit Four Different Islands
Unlike most land-based tour operators, which typically visit just two or possibly three islands, our itinerary always includes four different islands. Every trip includes a stay on Santa Cruz and Isabela islands, and, depending on our timing and national park permits, we will include visits to two other islands as part of our diverse exploration of the Galapagos.
  2. Overnight Stays on Two Islands
Most Galapagos-by-land tours are based on just one island, making excursions to other islands from a single location. Our lodge-based adventure includes overnight stays on both Santa Cruz and Isabela, to enhance the diversity of our guests' experience and increase proximity to the other islands we visit, reducing our time in repetitive transit.
  3. Travel with a Small Group
Just as with our boat-based trips, our lodge-based Galapagos tour operates with a small group, in this case just 14 guests and our Expedition Leader for the most intimate encounters with nature and wildlife.
  4. Relax at Waterfront Boutique Lodges
Though you won't be sleeping aboard a boat, that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the ambience of the sea! Our distinctive boutique lodges in Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz) and Puerto Villamil (Isabela) are located right on the ocean's edge, with fantastic view of the sea, not to mention the gentle sound of the waves to lull you to sleep at night.
  5. Sleep Among Wild Tortoises at our Luxury Safari Camp!
Our lodge-based trip offers a special opportunity to spend a night in the highlands of Santa Cruz at a deluxe safari-style camp, situated on a ridge with sweeping views of seven other islands in the Pacific far below. Luxury canvas tent cabins with beds, en suite baths and large balconies are set within lush natural environs that are home to a variety of songbirds and wild Galapagos tortoises.
  6. Enjoy Cultural Experiences Not Available on Boat-Based Trips
By staying on shore, we have more time to explore the local communities, with more cultural and social interaction than would be possible if we were traveling among the islands by boat. The small towns we stay in offer a chance to wander the streets, browse in shops and enjoy a drink in a local cafe or bar.
  7. Take an Optional Hike Up Sierra Negra Volcano
Our exclusive itinerary offers the rare chance to visit the southeast side of Isabela Island, not accessible on boat-based trips, where guests who wish may choose to hike to the rim of Sierra Negra, an impressive volcano with exhilarating views into its deep crater, and to the ocean and islands beyond.
