Family Costa Rica Adventure

A Specially Guided Rainforest Adventure of Fun and Discovery for the Entire Family
Costa Rica’s mountains, beaches, cloud forests and tropical rainforests offer families an unmatched natural destination for adventure. Wedged between two oceans and two continents, Costa Rica is home to some of the greatest biodiversity on earth: gigantic ferns, orchids, neon-billed toucans, three-toed sloths, monkeys, peccaries, crocodiles, iguanas and frogs, for starters. We encounter it from a variety of exciting approaches: rafting a lazy river, riding horseback through the jungle, flying through the forest on a zip-line and exploring on foot in the rainforest. Nature has never been so impressive, and your family has never had so much fun.
  • Join our top Expedition Leaders as we explore the wonders of the rainforest on a range of family-friendly adventures
  • Float down the Río Peñas Blancas in search of toucans, monkeys, sloths, frogs, crocodiles and tropical birds
  • Our exclusive small-group journeys to remote and exciting sights include two of Costa Rica’s most famous volcanoes
Location of Adventure
Costa Rica, Central America

Group Size Limit
Approximately 14 Travelers
A very important feature of our trips is the limited group size, as nature expeditions are best experienced with smaller groups of travelers.

Included
Accommodations, meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on the final day, bottled water, services of NHA Expedition Leader, local guides and lodge staff, some gratuities, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, optional horseback ride, permits and entrance fees, all taxes.

Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, alcoholic beverages, most gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, laundry, etc.), airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance.

Physical Requirements
Easy / Flexible
This trip does not require a high degree of physical fitness, although a number of short walks are involved. All activities are optional. Travelers should be aware that the heat and humidity may be high and roads may be bumpy. Some long drives may be necessary on this trip. Children may need to be a certain age to participate in some activities.

Important Information
Costa Rica is not just one of the world’s greatest natural treasures but also a family adventure paradise. This trip features what we believe are the most exciting and fascinating activities for families within this ecologically diverse country. Our Expedition Leader and driver will accompany our small groups to these remote areas, revealing the splendors of the rainforests and cloud forests. While this trip is available on a customized basis, pricing only applies to scheduled trips listed. Pricing for custom trips will be determined based on group size and dates, and increases should be expected during non-summer months. Please note that there is a minimum age limit of 8 years for the zip line, and a minimum age limit of 9 years for the rafting in Sarapiquí.

Getting There & Getting Home
Arrive anytime on Day 1 - a welcome dinner is scheduled for approximately 7pm. You are free to depart San José at any time on the final day. We can best serve you if Natural Habitat Adventures’ Travel Desk makes these reservations for you as they are intimately familiar with the special requirements of these programs and can arrange the most efficient and cost-effective travel. Please call us at 1-800-543-8917.

Age Limits on Family Adventures
We generally welcome children ages six and older on all of our Family Trips. However, while some six-year-olds are well-suited for some or all of our Family adventures, others may not be ready for the requirements of group travel. For this reason, we believe that it is more useful to consider this age limit a guideline rather than a hard and fast rule. We believe that you, as a parent or guardian, are best qualified to decide whether or not your child would enjoy the experience without compromising the comfort of others. We strongly encourage to you call our office to speak with an Adventure Travel Specialist about the specific requirements of the trip you're considering so that you can make an informed decision about your child's participation. We are unable to allow children younger than six on these scheduled departures due to safety regulations, physical limitations, and concerns regarding group dynamics. Please note that there is a minimum age limit of 8 years for the zip line, and a minimum age limit of 9 years for the rafting in Sarapiquí.
