Meet Nature Up Close on Walking Safaris and Wildlife Drives in this Exceptionally Scenic Reserve
Day 1: Delhi, India
Arrive in Delhi and transfer to the Trident Gurgaon Hotel. This outstanding property was voted "Asia’s Leading Hotel" at the coveted World Travel Awards and is an ideal setting in which to relax after your travels.
Days 2–4: Bhopal / Satpura National Park
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for our flight to Bhopal, and then drive to Satpura National Park. Virtually free of tourists, this rugged wilderness reserve is covered by some of the oldest teak and sal forest in India. Here we monitor waterholes and streams on early morning and late afternoon game drives, searching for animals hydrating themselves before and following the relentless heat of midday. We're likely to see an impressive range of prey species such as gaur, sambar, chital, wild boar and barking deer. Their predators, though more elusive, include tiger, leopard, wild dog and hyena, all of which thrive in the park's secluded habitat. Other species call the park home, too, such as sloth bear, rhesus macaque, langur, smooth otter, pangolin and marsh crocodile. Birdlife is magnificent, with opportunities to see black eagle, Malabar pied hornbills, crested serpent eagles, paradise flycatchers and plenty of small songbirds, lending their lyrical calls to the jungle air. A highlight at Satpura is walking safaris, a rare opportunity in India available only within this national park. Guided night walks are an exciting option, too, as is the chance to perch inside a hide and wait for nocturnal animals to approach.
Day 5: Satpura / Bhopal / Delhi
After an early-morning game drive followed by lunch at the lodge, return to Bhopal airport where we connect with our evening flight back to Delhi. On arrival in Delhi, transfer to the Taj Mahal Hotel to join our India's Tigers & Wildlife Photo Safari.
