Offered on all polar bear trips! Explore historic Winnipeg and its world-class museum!
For polar bear travelers who want to see as much as possible during their trip to Manitoba, we offer a guided Extra Day in Winnipeg program. It takes place prior to each polar bear tour and includes hotel accommodations, breakfast and lunch, a tour of the city highlighting historical and cultural points of interest, and a guided visit to the acclaimed Manitoba Museum, winner of numerous awards for excellence in visitor experience and service.
Location of Adventure
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
October Programs
If your Extra Day in Winnipeg program occurs during the month of October, we will visit FortWhyte Alive in addition to the guided museum and city bus tours. At this 640-acre nature reserve located just outside the city, we'll learn about northern prairie, aspen forest and marsh environments, with a special focus on bison and birds. Joined by a local guide, we travel into the park’s Bison Prairie for a close-up encounter with these huge beasts and learn about how they have shaped Manitoba’s history. Our nature immersion continues with a guided interpretive walk through a wetland where we’ll see Canada geese, mallards and other migrating birds, followed by a visit to see endangered burrowing owls, a very charming species.
November Programs
If your Extra Day in Winnipeg program takes place in November—typically a colder and snowier time of year—we have planned a special indoor program to keep you warm, dry and entertained. In addition to the guided museum and city bus tours, we'll attend a live planetarium presentation on the Northern Lights and constellations of the skies above Winnipeg and Churchill. The aurora borealis, a familiar sight to many Manitobans, still evokes awe at the wonder and beauty of nature. Sit back, relax and open your imagination to the mystery and magic of the northern night sky. Our museum program also includes “Inuit: People of the North,” a seminar designed to provide an understanding of the history and traditional lifestyles of the Inuit people.

Studies suggest that two-thirds of the world’s polar bear population could be gone by 2050. And if current warming trends continue unabated, WWF scientists and other researchers believe that polar bears may disappear altogether within 100 years. WWF is intent on preventing this from happening.
