Walk Along the Great Wall, See Beijing's Olympic Park & Dine on Peking Duck
A morning flight from Chengdu to Beijing brings you to China's fast-paced modern capital, where you're met on arrival by our local guide. As you head into the city from the airport, stop first at Beijing's Olympic Park, site of the 2008 Summer Games, where you'll have a chance to get out for a close look at the famous national stadium known as the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube aquatics center. After lunch, continue to the Great Wall, the 2,000-year-old edifice built to protect Chinese civilization from encroaching northern tribes. We arrive by late afternoon, when most of the tourists have left for the day. There's time to take a walk along the ancient stone wall as it undulates over the mountain ridges and ravines, perhaps climbing into one of the watchtowers to capture panoramic photos of the surrounding landscape. Then, check in to our elegant hotel in the the capital's most upscale district. There's time to refresh before a Peking duck dinner at a nearby restaurant, followed by a walk around one of Beijing's lively night markets. Tomorrow, a transfer to the airport is included to meet your departing flight.
