Hike, Bike or Explore by 4x4, Discovering Diverse Landscapes and Bushman Rock Art
Day 1: Arrive Cape Town, South Africa
Upon arrival in Cape Town, you will be met at the airport by our local representative and transferred to Bushman’s Kloof by road. Please arrive in Cape Town by 1:00pm. This three-hour scenic drive is an activity in itself as you pass through stunning mountain ranges and coastal beauty to one of the country’s finest landscapes, the Cederberg of Western Cape.
Your destination is the heavenly private reserve of Bushman’s Kloof, a place of peace, recreation and exploration. The range of activities and options here is incredible. From archery to canoeing to a spa and the organic garden, from rock art to wildlife, it’s all here. This is a wonderful place to unwind after the intensity of safari or the nightlife of Cape Town. The property abounds with surprises – to tell you them would take from the experience. Leave it to the imagination, and join us to find out.
Each of the 16 rooms features all of the finest appointments of a country estate house, catering to every whim. This is Bushman’s specialty, to provide a home away from home but with the something for every discerning guest. The organic gardens (all five of them!) supply all the sustenance for your stay. Visit the Heritage Centre here the resident archeologist will share with you a fascinating collection of Bushman artifacts. Your stay here is sure to like none other.
Day 2-3: Bushman’s Kloof
For the next two days the treasures of Bushman’s Kloof and the Cederberg reveal themselves. You can relax at your leisure or take part in any of the myriad activities available including sunset nature drives, early morning rock art excursions, nature hikes, mountain biking, canoeing, swimming, fly-fishing, archery.
The reserve is rich in Bushman rock art with over 130 pristine sites, some dating as far back as 10,000 years ago making them one of the oldest recorded examples of human art. 755 Indigenous plant species have been identified within the reserve, including Bushmans Kloof’s own ‘Cederberg Seven’ – an endemic group of species. From July through to October the veld comes alive with spring flowers, revealing the colors of thousands of beautiful, and some unusual, spring flowers.
Walk, bike or 4x4 to find any of the area’s 35 mammal species and 150 bird species. Most commonly seen are gemsbok, bontebok, Cape Mountain zebra, eland, Red hartebeest, Grey rhebok, klipspringer, kudu, springbok and steenbok, and sightings of aardwolf, African wildcat, Bat Eared fox, Cape fox and porcupine.
After all this exploration, cool off in refreshing waterfalls and rivers, natural, crystal clear rock pools or enjoy a treatment at the Spa capped off with a sundowner at River Boma on the water’s edge. The farm-fresh dinner will be served at the Embers, where a traditional African braai is on the menu.
Day 4: Depart for Cape Town
It’s a fond farewell as you return by road to Cape Town International Airport.
