Arenal Volcano Extension

Visit Costa Rica’s Most Dramatic Landmark & Stay at Famous Arenal Observatory Lodge
Costa Rica lies on the edge of two tectonic plates, among the most dynamic such junctures on earth. Arenal Volcano towers over the rainforest that surrounds Lake Arenal at its base. We spend three days exploring this fascinating region on walks over trails and hanging bridges through the canopy, with the volcano looming in the background. Birds call out from the treetops, while a host of rainforest wildlife creates a natural chorus to serenade us during our stay at Arenal Observatory Lodge.

Trip Highlights

  • Spend two nights at famous Arenal Observatory Lodge, situated directly across from the volcano and the site of important seismological research
  • Enjoy guided hikes through the rainforest surrounding the lodge, discovering lush vegetation, tropical flowers and an array of birdlife
  • Visit Danaus Eco-Center, where we'll have a chance to see sloths, red poison dart frogs and more than 30 species of butterflies on our walk through the botanical preserve
