Andes Hacienda Extension
Discover indigenous cultures and meet local artisans in the scenic foothills of the Andes
Journey into the volcanic highlands above Quito for a 3-day immersion in the traditional cultures, artisan crafts and village life of the Andes. Our activity-packed extension is based at a classic colonial hacienda that was once a center for local textile production in the 18th century. Today the Hacienda Pinsaqui is a gracious inn, welcoming guests into its historic quarters with the same hospitality that greeted many notable visitors centuries ago. From this scenic setting that looks out onto the peaks of several nearby volcanoes, we explore the Andean countryside, meeting local crafts producers, visiting the famous Otavalo Market, and riding the 'Freedom Train' on a thrilling day trip from the highlands to the coast. We even stand atop the Equator!
