Agra and the Taj Mahal

Journey to the Fabled Taj Mahal and Red Fort, Splendors of the Mughal Imperial Age
No adventure to India would be complete without a chance to see its most storied cultural treasure, the fabulous Taj Mahal. Our Agra extension includes two visits to the monument to capitalize on early-morning and late-day light. Agra is also famous for its magisterial Red Fort, the 16th-century walled city built of red sandstone that was the center of the Mughal Empire for many decades till it was moved back to Delhi. Today it is a most impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site, which we will also visit.

Trip Highlights

  • Visit the Taj Mahal twice, in the afternoon and again at sunrise, for superlative views of the world’s most famous monument to love
  • Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the Taj Mahal with a local expert who will unveil every fascinating detail of its construction and history
  • Explore Agra’s stunning Red Fort at sunset, a massive edifice covering 94 acres whose chambers are rich in intricate carvings and inlay work
