A Letter from Olaf, CEO (Chief Exploratory Officer)
Dear Explorers,
In 1913, the invincible Ernest Shackleton placed a small ad in the London press, seeking staff for an expedition that would undertake an adventure never before completed – the first crossing of Antarctica via the South Pole:
“Men Wanted for Hazardous Journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.”
Many hardy prospects heeded his call, a valiant team was assembled, and astounding feats of fortitude were achieved. Most importantly, everyone returned safely due to Shackleton’s leadership and care for those in his trust.
Many years ago I started a small adventure travel company called Explorers’ Corner, seeking to imbue our own trips with that same passion for discovery. Now, with great excitement, we have merged with Natural Habitat Adventures to create Natural Habitat Expeditions, combining resources with the world’s leader in nature tourism.
While Nat Hab is best known for small-group nature adventures featuring superb, up-close wildlife viewing, our Nat Hab Expeditions offerings add the element of active adventure, allowing small groups to travel farther afield by foot or paddle or any means that immerses us even deeper in the sensory wonders of the world around us.
On a Natural Habitat Expeditions trip, we do things differently.
You may be challenged physically, and you’ll need an extra modicum of flexibility. But oh, the rewards are worth it.
To rise early for a morning paddle with sea turtles in the Galapagos is a small sacrifice. Helping to prepare a meal inside a cramped kitchen on a stormy day on the coast of Greenland is as vivid an occasion as encountering the beauty you’re sure to find outdoors, no matter what the weather. And an occasional re-routing due to unexpected conditions will reveal new scenes and surprises you would have otherwise missed.
The memories you create – and the changes that happen within – are where the value of genuine adventure travel lies. You’ll have stories to share when you return, though they won’t always be the ones you expected to tell. And like Shackleton, we’re here to guide you.
We want you to feel a downpour, smell the sharp wind off the sea, laugh in the spray of a breaching whale, and lend a hand so that all may reach the ultimate successes of learning through discovery. This philosophy shapes our motto, which has the same Shackletonian ring to it:
Real Explorers Wanted – Adventure Guaranteed!
Won’t you join us?

Studies suggest that two-thirds of the world’s polar bear population could be gone by 2050. And if current warming trends continue unabated, WWF scientists and other researchers believe that polar bears may disappear altogether within 100 years. WWF is intent on preventing this from happening.
