Secluded Zambia Safari

An In-Depth Nature Adventure Into the Untouched Heart of Africa
Few places in the world remain as wild as they were 150 years ago, when explorers like David Livingstone ventured into lands that were terra incognita. And while Africa, like the rest of the globe, has become familiar, portions of it are evocative of that earlier era when the bush teemed with animals and a sense of nature’s immensity was palpable. That sense remains in Zambia. Nearly half the country is preserved in parks and game reserves, offering an unparalleled wilderness safari experience. Zambia, land of untamed rivers, thundering waterfalls and vast herds of game, is still for explorers.
  • Discover this less-traveled safari destination – far from the ordinary – highlighted by stays at nostalgic bush camps
  • Traverse the game paths of the Luangwa Valley with legendary Zambia walking safari guide Phil Berry
  • On the remote Busanga Plains, witness large numbers of predators and prey engaged in a spirited coexistence
Location of Adventure
Zambia, Southern Africa

Group Size Limit
Approximately 6 travelers
A very important feature of our trips is the limited group size, as nature expeditions are best experienced with smaller groups of travelers.

4 x 4 Open-Top Land Rovers or Land Cruisers
On this adventure, we use open 4 x 4 Land Rovers or Land Cruisers, with a unique suspension system and an open-top, open-sided, tiered seating arrangement, specially-designed to maximize game viewing opportunities and comfort. Each vehicle has 10 cushioned passenger seats, one in front next to the driver, followed by three rows of three seats each, though we limit our capacity to just eight travelers. Each row is raised slightly higher than the one in front of it, allowing for unobstructed views of scenery and wildlife. A mini-fridge stocked with cold drinks and a small library with reference books and field guides enhance game drives. Each custom-built vehicle sports front bull bars and runner boards, as well as a full recovery kit, including spare tires and a high lift jack. Vehicles are updated or replaced as needed and meticulously maintained to provide our guests with an unmatched safari experience.

Included
Internal scheduled flights, accommodations, all meals from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on final day, non-alcoholic drinks at camps and in vehicles, house alcoholic beverages in camps, services of NHA’s professional Expedition Leaders, local guides and lodge staff, some gratuities, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, permits and entrance fees, and all taxes.

Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, premium alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance, and required medical evacuation insurance.

Physical Requirements
Moderate / Flexible
Participate in physical activities as you desire. Excursions to see wildlife can be casual walks or long, physically demanding walks if that is what you prefer. Longer walks may not be guided, as Expedition Leaders tend to stay with slower groups. We do, however, recommend that travelers who participate in these programs be of an adventurous spirit, as they will often enjoy the very closest of animal encounters and safari vehicles can sometimes offer a bumpy ride.

Important Information
Zambia’s Luangwa Valley is the birthplace of the traditional walking safari and we do so in the company of our Expedition Leader, none other than Luangwa legend Phil Berry. Explore the park’s depths both by foot and 4x4 for a comprehensive study of its undulating hills, seasonal floodplains, ebony forests and rushing rivers. Then, continue your pursuit of unexplored Africa with a safari in Kafue National Park, one the most remote and inaccessible parks in southern Africa. Its seasonal floodplains and extensive habitat diversity host a plethora of species. Our itinerary is one of the finest - staying at small private camps along the Luangwa and famous Busanga plains, indulging in our own private Africa of yesteryear. The camps are well-appointed with all the comforts while still maintaining the character of traditional tented camps. We will enjoy the company of two different Expedition Leaders during this trip - one in South Luangwa and one in Kafue and Victoria Falls.

Getting There & Getting Home
You must arrive in Lusaka, Zambia by 1pm on Day 1 and you may depart Livingstone, Zambia anytime after 1pm on the final day. We can best serve you if Natural Habitat Adventures’ Travel Desk makes these reservations for you as they are intimately familiar with the special requirements of these programs and can arrange the most efficient and cost-effective travel.
