Cruise the Chobe River into Botswana & Namibia & Safari Overland in Private Reserves
Though more than 60 years have passed since Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn plied a remote river aboard the African Queen, the mystique of their exploits lives on. And while our deluxe riverboat is a far cry from their primitive vessel, we recapture a bit of that fabled era as we plumb the broad channels and backwaters of the Chobe River. In the heart of the southern African wilds, animals abound and the sense of adventure is palpable—yet you’ll experience it all in sublime comfort aboard our privately chartered riverboat. What’s more, this epic safari also includes an inland sojourn at intimate camps deep within the heart of Botswana’s premier private game reserves. If you're looking for an African safari to match your romantic imagination, you've found it!

A Southern Africa Safari Like None Other
In the vast landscapes of Botswana and Namibia, great populations of wildlife thrive within healthy ecosystems, including the critical lifelines of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers. This grand adventure gives you the "best seats in the house" for optimal vantage points on wildlife, both on the water and from 4x4 vehicles as we explore overland. Our Great African River Safari delivers a new twist on the tried and true: secluded accommodations in exceptional wildlife reserves offering close-up sightings—plus three nights aboard a deluxe safari houseboat, too!
The Best of Both Worlds: Safari on Land & Water This unique itinerary includes three nights aboard a privately chartered Chobe riverboat plus six nights on safari in some of Botswana's best private reserves. We've designed it in conjunction with WWF to provide a truly distinctive experience of this wildlife-rich region of southern Africa.
Maximum Group Size Just 7 Travelers!
A truly intimate immersion in nature is only possible in a small group... and this safari is capped at a maximum of seven guests! This exceptionally small group size ensures the most personalized safari experience possible in the quiet, remote areas we visit.
A Window Seat for Each Guest
We guarantee that each traveler gets a window seat on our wildlife drives, for optimal wildlife viewing and photography.
Stay in Seclusion on Private Reserves
For the land portion of this safari, rather than basing ourselves in the more heavily visited national parks in Botswana, where most travelers go, we retreat to the isolation of private concessions. Here, visitor numbers are strictly limited and we're surrounded by a multitude of wildlife. Enjoy exclusive stays at tented camps in Selinda and Tubu Tree Camp, an intimate enclave on Hunda Island. While the camps are simple, they are exceptionally secluded, and we're the only guests—the perfect combination for superlative wildlife viewing!
Enjoy the Rare Privilege of Exploring on Foot
Within the private concessions, specifically near the Selinda Spillway, we're able to explore the African bush from a slow, close-up perspective on short guided walking excursions, an activity not permitted in the public reserves. You'll be amazed at how much more you see at the macro level when you're outside a vehicle.
Chartered Flights Maximize Your Time on Safari
We charter flights between safari locations, rather than make you endure long, dusty drives over rough dirt roads. This allows us to spend more time actually participating in safari activities, rather than in transit.
The World's Finest Naturalist Guides
Our guests enjoy the personalized service of some of the top naturalist guides in all of Africa—a Nat Hab hallmark.Your NHA Expedition Leader accompanies your group from start to finish, ensuring a superior safari experience. Rather than using less-qualified local camp guides at each stop, you'll benefit from our Expedition Leader's expertise every step of the way—they are among the most highly trained guides in Africa, averaging 15 years' experience, with additional training and resources provided by WWF’s top researchers. Our philosophy on this is simple: an African safari is only as good as the guide, so we must provide the very best!
