The Rattray family brings 40 years of experience as purveyors of traditional African hospitality to their luxurious camp at Mala Mala. Evoking the ambience of an earlier era of elegance, the property’s colonial-style decor features fine teak, leather and crystal. Eight luxury suites, or khayas (Zulu for "home"), accommodate up to 16 guests. Each functions as an inclusive home, resplendent with carefully selected furnishings, private verandahs overlooking the river, and a private heated plunge pool. Lavish his-and-hers bathrooms in each suite include a claw-footed tub, double shower, under-floor heating, and an additional secluded outdoor shower. In-room dining is possible with both indoor and outdoor private dining areas. Individual, 24-hour temperature control includes heating, air conditioning and ceiling fans. Amenities in each suite include direct-dial telephones, hairdryers, mini bar, mini safe, tea and coffee-making facilities, and optional satellite TV, DVD player, and laptop with wireless Internet access.
Facilities shared by all camp guests include a beautifully appointed library containing rare books and works of art, an elegant air-conditioned dining room, and a historic bar featuring photographs of the area’s early pioneers. Outstanding meals are also served on the spacious wooden deck, which offers a superb game-viewing experience in itself! A fully stocked wine cellar houses a selection of fine South African wines to complement the dining experience. A large infinity pool offers a refreshing swim with views across the river, and guests can stay in shape on the gym equipment in the small fitness facility, which also includes a steam room. Massage service is available on request.
