Calm, stoic strength. The consummate mother. Introspection. A symbol of the wild itself. No matter what bears represent for you personally, you are sure to have an opinion on them and what their proper relationship with us should be.

That’s why watching them is so intriguing and why bear-viewing trips are popular with nature travelers. But when we can’t be “out there” in the remote areas that bears like to frequent, virtual travels come in handy.

One of those natural habitats is Alaska’s Katmai National Park, where visitors have the opportunity to see—and perhaps spend some time with—the largest coastal grizzlies in the world. ©Brad Josephs
