A powerful predator, goshawks hunt inside the forest or along its edge. They take their prey by putting on short bursts of amazingly fast flight, often twisting among branches and crashing through thickets in the intensity of pursuit.

Human beings have a number of common dream themes, and one of them is flying. We’ve probably all imagined a bird’s-eye view of one landscape or another. If you’ve ever wondered, however, what flying looks like from the eyes of some of the fastest raptors on earth, watch this BBC video. Small cameras were attached to a peregrine falcon as it flew over a shoreline and a goshawk flying through a forest.

Now, if only we could use biomimicry to get us soaring through some of the world’s last great expanses of trees, such as the Great Bear Rainforest!
