Our Premier Primate Trip to Uganda & Rwanda for Gorillas, Chimpanzees & Golden Monkeys!
To trek into the rain forest and sit with a family of wild mountain gorillas, catching the gaze of a huge silverback at close range, watching babies cling to their mothers, laughing at youngsters playing in the trees...it's a profound experience for a wildlife lover. To capture amazing photographs of such encounters lets you relive these rare moments in enduring images. Our Expedition Leader is both a primate naturalist and accomplished photographer whose expertise on both fronts helps you go home with photos you could only dream of beforehand. Your visit with endangered mountain gorillas and other primates in their natural habitat in Uganda and Rwanda may also be a life-changing experience for these species, as ecotourism is the main hope for protecting their future.
Four separate gorilla-tracking expeditions—two each in Uganda and Rwanda—maximize photo opportunities with the last of the world's endangered mountain gorillas
Look for golden monkeys, too, and complete the primate experience in Kibale National Park photographing wild chimpanzees and colobus monkeys
While primates are our focus, we also visit Queen Elizabeth National Park where African plains game and predators abound on the savannas of the western Rift Valley
What Makes Our Gorilla Photo Safari So Exceptional?
Few wildlife photography trips include moments as utterly riveting as those with the primates we encounter on our Ultimate Gorilla Photo Safari. To maximize the amazing interactions, we have designed this trip with the utmost scrutiny for details that make it stand out from the rest. Take a look at what makes ours a superior gorilla-viewing experience:
You Won't Find a More In-Depth Primate Itinerary Plenty of gorilla safaris give you only one day in the rain forest to track these reclusive animals. But on our Ultimate Gorilla Photo Safari we include four separate gorilla tracking expeditions—two days each in Uganda and Rwanda—to maximize opportunities for incredible photos. Add wild chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest, plus a chance to see and photograph colobus and golden monkeys, and you've got the most comprehensive primate photo safari Africa has to offer.
Experience the Full Diversity of Africa's Wildlife While gorillas are our focus, no nature photographer should come to Africa without a chance to capture images of its iconic big wildlife such as elephants, zebra, giraffe, lions and more. Our itinerary is designed to include the best of both: primates plus general wildlife viewing on forest treks, wildlife drives and a boat cruise, encompassing diverse and highly scenic terrain.
Comfortable Vehicles with a Window Seat for Every Traveler Nothing is more critical to getting the best possible photos than a guaranteed window seat on board the highest-quality safari trucks. And, unlike companies that crowd guests into pop-top mini-buses or poorly equipped vans, we use top-quality 4x4 safari vehicles designed for the bush, with features such as multiple roof hatches that enhance photography opportunities. There's no way around it—Central Africa has some pretty rough roads—so full 4-wheel-drive capacity with the highest-quality suspension are key features of our vehicles.
Unique Accommodations Offer Character & Seclusion Where you stay on safari makes a big difference to your overall experience. That's why we use small, intimate camps and lodges in remote areas wherever possible. As a traveler focused on photography you'll be pleased to know that we choose our locations for their scenic settings, natural ambience and proximity to wildlife—a big contrast to large lodges in busy areas where hundreds of tourists congregate.
A Scenic Route for Photography, Maximum Equipment Allowance Uganda and Rwanda are small countries, and among the most beautiful in Africa. We have designed this photography-focused itinerary to include unusually scenic drives between safari locations, allowing us to photograph the countryside and communities in view along the roadside. And, crucially important, driving also allows for maximum photo equipment allowances, which may be restricted on small planes with tight weight limits. Because we do a point-to-point trip from Entebbe to Kigali, we don't do any backtracking, unlike most other gorilla itineraries—which means more for you to see and photograph en route!
