Location of Adventure
Approximately 9 Travelers
Our safaris generally have the smallest group size in the industry (typically averaging about eight travelers), but on this Tanzania safari we have arranged for a slightly larger group to take advantage of multiple safari vehicles, all in radio contact, searching for the migration. This gives us a better chance to witness this spectacular event. Small group sizes are the best way to experience nature, and this is especially true for our photographic adventures. With a maximum of just four travelers per safari vehicle, you’re assured of plenty of space and personalized attention when you need it. As a small group, we maintain the flexibility to adapt to changing conditions in a way that maximizes the photo opportunities – we'll depart early in the morning to chase the best light, remain at a site of specific photographic interest to fully explore the potential, or move to a new destination when desired. Our Expedition Leader, who is both an expert naturalist and accomplished photographer, is always available to answer your questions and provide tips and techniques to help you better photograph this amazing region of the world and its wild inhabitants.

Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land Cruisers
As with all of our adventures around the world, our focus is on wildlife and nature viewing, and in Africa a big portion of that is performed during our wildlife drives. In Tanzania our safari vehicles are specially-adapted, reinforced Land Cruisers, offering each guest a window seat, plus additional space for photo gear. We use open-sided vehicles with a canvas roof, offering an open field of view while still offering some protection from the elements. With no middle seats, there is ample room for gear and extra leg room, and all guests enjoy excellent viewing opportunities. Depending on the exact group size, Expedition Leaders will spend time in each of the vehicles offering photo instruction throughout the safari. Refrigerators/ice boxes keep drinks cool for our guests and an on board library of bird and mammal books offer insight into the region’s natural history. As is the case with all of our vehicles, these safari trucks are enhanced with specialized suspensions to ensure the most comfortable ride possible in the wilds of Africa.
Our Private Leaders
A safari vehicle frequently offers a bumpy ride. Wildlife drives often involve long hours of sitting and sometimes bouncing around. While we don't consider this strenuous, it can be uncomfortable and may pose a particular type of physical demand on the body. All travelers must be able to climb into and out of raised 4x4 safari trucks. They must also be able to walk to and from the vehicle to our camp accommodations, sometimes walking over uneven ground or on boardwalks. Additionally, while any short walks are considered optional, you will get the most out of your safari experience if you can walk a mile or two over uneven ground without assistance. Days spent on safari can be long, as mornings typically start before daybreak and evening meals are served after sundown. Safari accommodations and vehicles are not climate controlled and, depending on the seasonality, temperatures can range from quite cold to extremely hot so it is critical that travelers come prepared. We recommend that all travelers have an adventurous spirit, as they will often enjoy the closest animal encounters.
Important Information About This Trip
Your safari wildlife drives take place in the highest quality, 4-wheel drive Land Cruisers, providing up-close encounters that cannot be accomplished in typical safari vans. This is a very important feature of our safaris. These vehicles have roof hatches which provide a full 360- degree view of the wildlife. Since every passenger is guaranteed a window seat, you are assured you will have plenty of space for wildlife viewing and taking photographs.
Since the areas you will travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for this program. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat Adventures (NHA), we require that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We recommend that your chosen independent insurance plan includes at least $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage. Please note that we will add the cost of NHA's medical evacuation policy (currently $48 per person) to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, phone number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.
To protect your investment and to provide peace of mind while you travel, we also strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip cancellations and delays and lost luggage. Please contact our office if you would like more information about the medical evacuation and comprehensive travel insurance policies we offer by calling 800-543-8917.
