A Small-Group Photography Adventure into the Remote Southern Africa Wilds
"My first visit to Africa will always be the trip that was "over the top!" I've been doing some serious traveling for the past few years, 4 trips a year for the last two years of 2-3 weeks' duration, and everyone always asks, "What was your favorite trip?" Until now, I've always replied that they were all wonderful in their own ways and it was hard to pick just one as my favorite. That is no longer a difficult question to answer -- after the Botswana safari, I can now say this trip has exceeded everything else I have done and pushed itself right up into the top position! Seeing the wildlife in Botswana was truly life changing. To sit beside a lion resting 5 feet away, watch a herd of elephants crossing a field through the tall grasses, witness zebras kicking up dust as they playfully chase each other around a water hole, seeing a baby giraffe kick up its heels and dash towards its mother --- I could go on and on but one can't really fathom the majesty, no matter how many documentaries seen, until they have sat in the midst and witnessed the behavior of the free roaming creatures of Africa!"
"I really appreciated the help I received from my Expedition Leader with suggestions on camera settings. Since my previous camera broke before this trip I purchased a new camera and was not completely familiar with all of its features. I loved his suggestions on creative shots and recommendations to pull back occasionally and get the 'big picture'. In the excitement of photographing the animals his tips to remember to drink water were especially helpful. His safety briefings were timely and very helpful. The walkabout and the night photography sessions were very informative and fun. Overall his knowledge of the animals and photography, tracking skills and stories of his experiences made this a highly enjoyable and informative trip."
"We not only saw the wildlife desired for our photo files but found them in iconic settings -- leopards with their kill in trees, lions fighting off encroaching vultures, elephants protecting the herds. More and better than I expected."
"I most enjoyed how our guide got us to places to photograph animals in the very best lighting possible! He moved the jeep frequently to insure good lighting. This made my photos be spectacular!"
"I have never felt so welcome anywhere in the world. I loved the greetings with song and moist towels and the smiles. The staff at each camp couldn't have been more pleasant. I loved the tents (I am now researching them for home). The camps were beautiful, clean, and well maintained. I loved the little personal notes left by the camp staffs. I loved the towel decoration/greetings at each camp. Each had its own charm."
“Our guide did an outstanding job of getting the vehicle in the right light for photos.”
"In terms of camps. They were just above and beyond what I could've imagined. So much to highlight; seeing tiny leopards and the meerkats (and getting to walk with them as they chose a den for the night), seeing 3 leopards in one day, spending a lot of time with the famous leopard at camp, watching wild dogs play after having just made a kill (and we saw this pack more than once), seeing cheetah, following 5 lions one morning, seeing baby elephants and baby giraffe, seeing a Marshall eagle with a kill, etc."
"We loved the Botswana trip. We said a lot about how wonderful our guide was when we filled out our evaluation, but wanted to add that the Safari Coordinator was excellent. She also knew so much about the wildlife and could identify the birds by their calls. She made sure that we were comfortable and entertained us when she joined the camp staffs singing and dancing. We loved the happy music in each camp. The variety and quality of the food was wonderful. I’m surprised we did not gain weight. The camp amenities met all of our needs and having the tents so open to the scene made us feel like we were part of the landscape. Even monkeys bouncing on our roof was a pleasant memory. We appreciate the choice of camp sites. They gave us an overview of the different ecosystems in the country and were all beautiful and close to the animals. The fact that we seldom saw another vehicle when we were on drives made the viewing of the wildlife very special. The coordination among the guides let us see so much, yet kept us secluded. The pace was perfect, and the flights gave us so much more time with the animals. Seeing Victoria Falls and the white rhinos at one camp was a perfect addition to the trip. Thank you and Natural Habitat for giving us such a wonderful adventure."
