Northern Tanzania experiences a long rainy season in April and May and a shorter rainy season in November—several camps close during these months for maintenance. December through February can be an excellent time to travel, with fewer tourists and a lower chance of rain. The days are warm and evenings are mild. The migration herds travel south between December and March to give birth on the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti before dispersing and moving into the western Serengeti between April and June, thought movements can vary depending on the rains. It is an excellent time for seeing babies and migratory birds.
