Robert Rerende

Robert Rerende is a Maasai from Morijo in Kenya’s remote Loita Hills, and is our resident guide for our Loita Hills hiking safari. He grew up in the traditional Maasai manner within his community and leared English at the local primary school, which was his passport into the world of tourism and guiding.

Since 1981 he has been leading walking safaris throughout the Maasai steppe area, which covers southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania. In addition to the Loita Hills, his favorite areas are Ol Donyo Lengai, an active volcano, which is the Maasai ‘Mountain of God,’ Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya. He enjoys taking intrepid travelers into the most remote parts of Maasai heartland and is credited with opening up the first walking route to the Alarsu waterfall in the Enchipai Valley, where Natural Habitat Safaris’ favorite exclusive campsite is located.

Now in his mid 40s and the father of five children, Robert is a leader within his community and has established two primary schools with the conservation fee proceeds from his walking safaris. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion for all things wild and Maasai with guests.
