Our goal isn’t simply to be the most environmentally responsible tour operator in the world, but to continually raise the bar and challenge other travel related businesses to raise their standards as well.

To this end, we are pleased to announce that beginning in 2007 all of our trips and office operations have been completely carbon neutral, making us the world's first 100% carbon neutral travel company! This means that we’ve paid to offset the carbon emissions that result from all of our office and trip-related activities on your trip. We leave you the option to offset your air transportation to and from the starting point of your adventure. 

Between January 1, 2007 and April 1, 2009 we have offset 4,826.6 tons of CO2. This is equivalent to...

• 802 cars not on the road
• 497,005 gallons of gasoline not consumed
• 10,183 barrels of oil not consumed
• 607 homes not using electricity for one year
• 112,272 tree seedlings grown for 10 years
• 30.5 acres of forest preserved from deforestation

The Problem
Did you know that travel-related activities account for up to 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions that affect global warming? Or that every time you fly your portion of the flight emits nearly a ton, on average, of greenhouse gasses?

The Solution

Of course there are many benefits of ecotourism and we are not suggesting that people stop traveling. But eliminating the damage we do to the planet through travel-related activities would be a huge victory in the battle against global warming. To accomplish this we have partnered with Sustainable Travel International (STI), a non-profit organization, to offset the greenhouse gases emitted from our trips.

Offsetting Your Adventure

Natural Habitat Adventures has paid to offset 100% of the carbon emissions from your adventure. We are the first travel company on the planet to do so! Here's how: STI calculates the greenhouse gas emissions that result from the land portion of your adventure (the majority of these emissions result from burning fossil fuels for transportation) then, NHA funds environmentally friendly energy projects worldwide to reduce emissions equal to the amount released on our trips. For example, STI may fund the reforestation of native tree species in Tengchong, China.
