Thuto Moutloatse

Now an award-winning photographer and naturalist, Thuto Moutloatse had the privilege of enjoying the superb wildlife areas of Botswana from a young age, as his father was involved in tourism and conservation. This exposure fostered a childhood love of the secrets of the wild. Thuto continued to hone his natural bush skills and passion for the wilderness through hiking and horseback riding while he was at school in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains in neighboring South Africa.

Following graduation, Thuto completed a Travel & Tourism course, undertook volunteer work at Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, then returned to Botswana, beginning his career at Khama Rhino Sanctuary. He soon joined Wilderness Safaris as a guide within the private Linyanti Concession. With an insatiable interest in the differing ecosystems of Botswana, Thuto joined the growing Explorations team in 2006, enhancing his natural sense for guiding and his personable rapport with guests.

He quickly became an integral member of the team and is now frequently requested by both tour operators and repeat guests. Since becoming a safari guide Thuto has also become an accomplished photographer, leading photography trips throughout southern Africa – he loves to share his considerable knowledge and passion for photography with his guests.

Thuto is a frequent participant in wildlife photography competitions and has submits photographs to various magazines throughout Africa. He recently had images published in Bird and Birding, and he won 3rd place in the 2012 Botswana Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
