Bears & Eagles of Chilko Lake - New Trip!

Watch for abundant grizzlies as they hunt for salmon in the azure blue waters of Chilko Lake!

Trip Overview
  • Encounter nature by raft, kayak, boat and helicopter on this multi-adventure wilderness escape
  • Fly in to a luxury backcountry lodge on glacier-fed Chilko Lake
  • Look for abundant grizzly bear that feast on spawning Chilko River salmon in the fall

Remote and spectacular, the Chilcotin Country of British Columbia remains largely undiscovered by outsiders. Chilko Lake lies at the heart of this vast and diverse region, flanked by the jagged, ice-etched Coast Range on the west and sage-covered plateaus on the east. The lake, a 55-mile-long alpine basin filled with blue-green glacial water, is our base for natural adventure on a scale rarely encountered. From our wilderness lodge we’ll embark on nature walks, river trips and lake excursions that bring us close to the abundant wildlife that thrives in the Chilcotin: Canada’s true “Wild West.”

Location of Adventure
Ts’yl-os Provincial Park, Coastal British Columbia

Group Size Limit: Approximately 12 Travelers
A very important feature of our Chilko Lake wildlife tour is the limited group size as nature expeditions are best experienced with smaller sized groups of travelers.

Included
Roundtrip airfare between Vancouver and The Lodge at Chilko Lake, one night accommodation in Vancouver, accommodations at Chilko Lake, all meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on final day, all activities described in the itinerary, services of NHA's professional Expedition Leader and local guides, entrance fees to parks, transportation, and some gratuities.

Not Included
Travel to and from Vancouver, alcoholic beverages, items of a personal nature (laundry, telephone, etc.), gratuities for local guides and Expedition Leader, and travel insurance.

Physical Requirements
Easy / Flexible
This adventure travel opportunity does not require a high degree of physical fitness although some short walks may be required should you wish to participate in every activity. Kayaking is included in this itinerary. It is easy to learn, and we expect that most of our guests have little or no experience. It does, however, take an adventurous spirit. Those travelers who are not particularly agile are welcome to forego this activity.

Important Information about This Trip

For serious grizzly bear photography and close-up viewing of grizzlies, this trip is not as rewarding as our Hidden Alaska or the Grizzlies of Coastal Katmai since we generally do not get as close and the light tends to be low by the time we see bears in the evening. This area, however, has its distinct advantages in that the scenery is spectacular and the grizzlies are truly wild, with very few other people around, and the lake offers a beautiful and unique backdrop for photographs.

Getting There & Getting Home
You should plan to arrive in time for a welcome dinner at 7pm on the first day of the trip. We have made private flight arrangements for our travelers between Vancouver and The Lodge at Chilko Lake. Our flight arrives back in Vancouver on the final day of your trip at approximately 3:30pm. We strongly advise that you book your departure flight out of Vancouver for 6:30pm or later on the final day of the trip.

Viewing & Photographing the Bears
For serious grizzly bear photography and close up viewing of grizzlies, this trip is not as rewarding as our Alaska Explorer or the Grizzlies of Coastal Katmai since we generally do not get as close and the light tends to be low by the time we see bears in the evening. This area, however, has its distinct advantages in that the scenery is spectacular and the grizzlies are truly wild, with very few other people around, and the lake offers a beautiful and unique backdrop for photographs.
