Discover Amazon & Machu Picchu

A Privately Guided Small-Group Exploration of Peru’s Natural and Archaeological Treasures
Peru was the cradle of the Inca empire and later the seat of the viceroyalty of Peru, which had jurisdiction over all of Spanish South America. It is the home of many indigenous ethnic groups. We begin our journey with a visit to Cusco, a colonial city set in a beautiful valley high in the Andes. Cusco is the archaeological capital of the Americas and the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city.Following a visit to the Sacred Valley, you'll embark at Ollantaytambo by train, bound for your next adventure — Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas"!Created in the fifteenth century, the Lost City of the Incas is a testament to the remarkable Inca culture. Archaeological evidence shows that Machu Picchu was not a conventional city but a country retreat town for Inca nobility. The ruins of Machu Picchu, rediscovered in 1911 by Yale archaeologist Hiram Bingham, are one of the most beautiful and enigmatic ancient sites in the world. The Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, a stunning, Andean retreat, will be one of your accommodations. It is constructed with eucalyptus wood and stone and sits on the banks of a river, surrounded by majestic mountain peaks. From the highlands, we travel to the north of Peru, where we board our luxury ship, the MV Aqua, for an unforgettable journey through the Amazon rainforest. The Peruvian Amazon boasts some of the best birding in the world. From the comfort of skiffs, which allow for optimal viewing into the treetops, we search for the vast array of fauna that surrounds us.The surrounding vegetation is home to a myriad of colorful reptiles, mammals, and birds …… such as the scarlet macaw, who eats mostly fruits and seeds. Typically, you'll see a single bird or a pair flying above the forest canopy; although in some areas, flocks can be seen.Three-toed sloths are among the interesting mammals we are likely to see on our daily outings.Several species of monkeys entertain us with their aerial acrobatics.Join us on this adventure into the wilds and mystery of Peru!
