Family Galapagos by Land

A Land-Based Family Guided Adventure in the Enchanted Isles
In 1835, a young naturalist named Charles Darwin visited the Galapagos and was inspired to change our understanding of life on earth. Today, visitors continue to find inspiration here, as your family will when you encounter the same wildlife Darwin did, up close and very personal. Swim with playful young sea lions. Gaze at a whitetip reef shark through your snorkel mask. Watch a marine iguana climb onto the lava to sunbathe in front of you. Laugh at a blue-footed booby performing a courtship dance. You won’t believe the memories you’ll make, here in these enchanted islands where everything is a wonder.
  • Discover the amazing wildlife of the Galapagos while based at first-class lodges ashore
  • Speedboat to neighboring islands where we swim, snorkel and hike in wild places that yacht-based adventures miss
  • See giant tortoises in the wild and at the Darwin Research Station breeding center, where new babies are as small as the palm of your hand
Location of Adventure
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Group Size Limit
Approximately 14 Travelers
A very important feature of our trips is the limited group size as nature expeditions are best experienced with smaller sized groups of travelers.

Included
Accommodations, all meals from breakfast on Day 2 through breakfast on final day (except dinner on Day 9), safe drinking water, services of NHA Expedition Leader and local staff, some gratuities, airport transfers, permit fees, sales taxes.

Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, R/T flight from Quito to Galapagos (to be added to your invoice and subject to change until day of departure), dinner on Day 9, alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, Galapagos tax and transit card (approx. $110 for adults, $60 for children under 12, collected in advance), items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport departure tax (approx. $40), optional travel insurance.

Physical Requirements
Easy to Moderate
This trip does not require a high degree of physical fitness. However, we do ask that travelers be of sound health and able to maintain a positive attitude in a wild setting. Guests should be able to walk at least one mile over uneven terrain and sometimes slippery rocks, as well as get in and out of rubberized rafts, which can be very unsteady in rough water. This trip has a couple of wet landings, where we exit the rubberized raft directly into the water on the beach. Daily activities include hikes, snorkeling and swimming. Not every activity is required. At least one longer hike several miles in length will be offered for those interested in more challenging excursions.

Important Information
This adventure gives guests an opportunity to explore the Galapagos Islands from a base in remote and lovely hotels rather than from a ship. It differs from ship-based trips in that we can access some areas that ships cannot as well as the more typical national park areas that ships can go.

Getting There & Getting Home
Arrive in Quito, Ecuador anytime on Day 1, and depart anytime on the final day. We are prepared to handle all your round-trip travel arrangements, including flights for your extensions. We can serve you best if Natural Habitat Adventures’ Travel Desk makes these reservations for you, as they are intimately familiar with the special requirements of this program and can arrange the most efficient and cost effective travel for you.

Age Limit on Galapagos Trips
We are happy to welcome children ages seven and older on our scheduled Galapagos departures. However, while some seven-year-olds are well-suited for our Galapagos adventures, others may not be ready for the requirements of group travel. For this reason, we believe that it is more useful to consider this age limit a guideline rather than a hard and fast rule. We believe that you, as a parent or guardian, are best qualified to decide whether or not your child would enjoy the experience without compromising the comfort of others. We strongly encourage to you call our office to speak with an Adventure Travel Specialist about the specific requirements of the trip you're considering so that you can make an informed decision about your child's participation. We are unable to allow children younger than seven on these scheduled departures due to safety regulations, physical limitations, and concerns regarding group dynamics.
