Nairobi Children's Home Project
Share your heart and hands at "The Nest," a home for children of imprisoned mothers.
Nairobi Children’s Home is a registered Charitable Trust that relies entirely on private donations to carry out its work. The center houses and protects infants and school-aged children in two separate facilities in Limuru, a suburb of Nairobi. The mission of the Children’s Home is to prevent the children of imprisoned mothers from fighting for survival on the street. The Home, lovingly dubbed “The Nest,” rescues affected children and improves their living conditions during their mothers' incarceration. They rehabilitate and later reintegrate the children and their released mothers with their extended families and society at large. They also work to create public awareness about the plight of children whose mothers are imprisoned for petty offenses.
- Offer practical, hands-on care to infants and preschool-age children living at "The Nest"

Important Information
During our visit to the facility where school-aged children are cared for by this organization, we will not have the opportunity to volunteer but will simply learn more about their circumstances and the work being done by the Nairobi Children's Home. Children of this age form attachments easily, so the home’s administrators take care when welcoming visitors, and encourage an educational experience rather than a close, interactive one. Our hands-on volunteer work will take place at the center's facility that houses babies and toddlers.
Getting There & Getting Home
Your voluntourism extension will begin with a transfer from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Tribe Hotel on the final day of your Great Kenya Migration safari. Your experience at the Nairobi Children's Home will begin later that afternoon. You are free to depart Nairobi on the afternoon or evening of the final day.
