Extend your Botswana Safari with a Customized Community Development Opportunity
Day 1: Arrive Livingstone, Zambia
Arrive in Livingstone and transfer to the David Livingstone Hotel, located on the banks of the Zambezi River near the brink of Victoria Falls. The hotel’s classic ambience and refined hospitality provides a warm welcome to Zambia. Enjoy dinner and a good night's sleep before your volunteer work begins tomorrow.
Day 2: Full day of volunteer work
After breakfast, you will be transferred to your work site for a full day of volunteering. With operations throughout South and East Africa, INTERACT is a program sponsored by African Impact, the 2010 winner of Best Social Involvement category for the respected South African Imvelo Responsible Tourism Awards. The awards recognize achievement in line with the UN World Tourism Organization’s code of ethics and the Responsible Tourism guidelines for the South African hospitality industry, honoring enterprises that make a real and sustained difference in tourism practice and influence.
Founded over 5 years ago in Zimbabwe, INTERACT partners with local governments and organizations in many countries to provide visitors with opportunities for short-term service. Thus far it has shared its mission with more than 3,000 volunteers who were determined to make a difference in the communities and conservation areas in which the organization works.
Volunteers serve in a wide range of ways: they may paint, build and refurbish schools, clinics and community centers, teach in classrooms, assist in learning interaction projects at orphanages, help coach at sports clubs, work on community farming projects for HIV/AIDS patients and assist with home-based care initiatives, to name just a few. The primary goal is to place volunteers in settings where they may be used to benefit and strengthen local systems. Your tasks will thus be determined by current community needs as well as your physical abilities. After an orientation, you’ll begin your project, breaking for lunch midway through before wrapping up your tasks late this afternoon. We return to the David Livingstone Hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Half day of volunteer work / Begin your Botswana safari
Return again to the field today to continue with your project or assist in a new capacity, depending on community needs. As you serve, you can rest in the assurance that your project fee goes directly to the work you are involved in. This fee facilitates funding for items such as medical supplies, building materials, equipment, etc. Fees are also used to buy vehicles and equipment for the projects.
This afternoon, transfer to the first night’s accommodation of your Botswana safari, The River Club, where you will meet your Expedition Leader and the rest of your group.

Studies suggest that two-thirds of the world’s polar bear population could be gone by 2050. And if current warming trends continue unabated, WWF scientists and other researchers believe that polar bears may disappear altogether within 100 years. WWF is intent on preventing this from happening.
