Hutch Brown

Hutch Brown hails from Maine USA and first cut his teeth in the wide world of adventure by through-hiking the Appalachian Trail when he was just 18, way back in 1986. Hutch graduated from Marlboro College in Vermont with a BA in American Literature. He became a registered Maine Guide, working on rivers in New York and West Virginia before his travels and work led him to Chile, Bulgaria, New Zealand and Laos.

In 2004 Hutch tapped into his artistic side again and was cameraman and still photographer for the historic first complete exploration and navigation of the Mekong River with another great EC guide, Mick O’Shea. Hutch stayed on in Indochina to lead river expeditions and knows this area very well. Hutch led Explorer’s Corner first descent expedition into the Kahmmuane Cave in Laos in 2004. More recently, Hutch and 8 other paddlers put in on the Yalong Jiang, a tributary of the Yangtzee in northern Sichuan Province, China. The team paddled 160 miles of class IV and V water to finish a first descent on a stretch of the Yalong (which will soon be underwater due to dam construction). Because of all the great feedback from clients and explorers, we have asked Hutch to come on board to lead our second Indochina program for 2006. His extensive guiding experience and infectious passion for the regions in which he works will enhance the experience of all.
