Baldvin Kristjansson
Our beloved “Baldy” has always wanted to travel the world. He left his native Iceland to study environmental tourism in Australia. With this foundation, he returned to Iceland and for 10 years ran his own nature-focused travel company. He refined his skills during service on the Icelandic Rescue Team and by training as a coach under the British Canoe Union. He works with groups in Asia, the Himalayas, Iceland, Greenland, and parts of Chile.
Although he still aspires to travel the world, “Baldy” returns again and again to the pristine beauty of the Arctic. He kayaks extensively along both the east and south coasts of Greenland; his groups are some of the few visitors to journey to see the unique animals, plants and local communities in this remote haven. He recently led the first of what he plans to be a series of trips there: the 49 day self supported “Greenland Blind Kayak Expedition”. He feels that challenging expeditions in cold waters, where group dynamics play a vital role in the trip’s success, are deeply rewarding.
“Baldy” also has a background in mountain travel. In addition to Greenland, he rates the Himalayas as one of his favorite places in the world.

Studies suggest that two-thirds of the world’s polar bear population could be gone by 2050. And if current warming trends continue unabated, WWF scientists and other researchers believe that polar bears may disappear altogether within 100 years. WWF is intent on preventing this from happening.
