The Amazon River is the lifeline of the planet. Flowing more than 4,000 miles from the Andes to the Atlantic, the Amazon contains one-fifth of the world’s fresh water and spans more than 25 miles at its widest point during the wet season. The great river courses through the most complex ecosystem on earth, a billion-acre tropical rainforest home to more than half the world’s species. Few adventures can match a journey by boat into this intense emerald realm, a world-class expedition that all serious travelers passionate about the natural world should make at least once in a lifetime.
