Meet Local People, Discover Nature & Share Culture on a Small-Group Caribbean Adventure
Experience Cuba’s stunning tropical ecosystems and hospitable culture on this educational exchange journey designed to provide a human perspective on the natural side of this Caribbean island nation. Our “People-to-People” approach offers personal encounters with contemporary Cubans eager to share their rich natural and cultural history, as well as details of modern life in a rapidly changing Cuba. Explore World Heritage Sites and UN Biosphere Reserves and learn about rural life on the land as we share personal interactions with our Cuban hosts. For decades, Cuba has been off-limits to most U.S. citizens, but doors are opening via educational journeys that offer a rare chance to exchange ideas and insights with Cuban scientists, naturalists, academics, farmers, community activists, artists, business owners and more. Join us for an authentic Cuba travel experience you won't find anywhere else!
Interact with Cuban experts involved in the study and stewardship of nature as we visit national parks, botanical gardens and community conservation initiatives
Join a local naturalist to explore little-visited Zapata National Park, a UN Biosphere Reserve that is the largest wetlands in the Caribbean and home to vast numbers of migratory birds
Enjoy the delights of Cuban culture with traditional foods, music and dance performances, and walk with a Cuban architect through splendidly preserved historic districts
What Makes Our Cuba Adventure Different from the Rest?
In 2011, the U.S. State Department approved the creation of the People-to-People program, permitting American citizens to travel to Cuba for the purposes of meeting Cuban people and learning about their lives. Toward that end, Nat Hab has taken pride in crafting a unique Cuba itinerary focusing on both culture and nature. Regular tourism is still not permitted for U.S. citizens, and American travel to Cuba on a non-People-to-People program remains illegal. In keeping with the mission of this popular program, our exciting adventure introduces you to a diverse array of local Cubans, with a focus on Cuba's natural side and the people involved with it—a Nat Hab exclusive! See how our trip differs from most:
A People-to-People Trip with a Nature Angle
Our educational exchange program is unique: in addition to highlighting Cuba’s rich cultural heritage, it’s designed to provide a human perspective on the natural side of this Caribbean island nation. Discover virtually unknown national parks, botanical gardens, lush tropical ecosystems and fabulous birdlife as we talk with naturalists, researchers, park managers, wildlife biologists, organic farmers and community conservation leaders. At World Heritage Sites and UN Biosphere Reserves, learn about nature and rural life through personal interactions with our hospitable hosts.
A Custom-Crafted Itinerary That Takes You Where Few Can Go Our staff has spent months working on this itinerary, fine-tuning it to provide a rare experience of Cuba that few travelers have access to. One of the hallmarks is Zapata National Park, rarely visited by tourists. We’ll meet with park staff involved with caring for this vast reserve that includes tropical forest, healthy reefs and the Caribbean’s largest and most important wetlands. Other People-to-People opportunities we include offer conversations with noted Cuban wildlife scientists and conservationists—you won’t find another itinerary like this one!
A Small Group for a More Authentic Experience
While many visitors to Cuba on People-to-People tours are traveling in groups of 20-30 people, our exclusive trip is limited to approximately 14 guests—the smallest group size you'll find. A small group ensures more personalized encounters with our Cuban hosts, as well as a more serene experience of Cuba’s natural places, which few travelers have access to in the first place.
Spacious Vehicles Ensure Comfort and a Window Seat
While the main highways between Cuba’s major cities generally offer a comfortable journey, the back roads in rural areas and national parks are often bumpy and more rugged. That’s why we have secured the highest-quality small coach for our groups—and with just 15 travelers aboard a 32-passenger bus, everyone gets a window seat with plenty of space to spread out. Cuba can also be hot and humid, so of course, our vehicles are air conditioned, too.
Travel with Our NHA Expedition Leader—Plus a Local Cuban Guide
While some companies send their clients to Cuba in the company only of a local Cuban guide, we provide double the attention and expertise, ensuring you are accompanied every step of the way by our own Expedition Leader. A highly trained professional guide with WWF training and personal expertise about Cuba, our Expedition Leader works in tandem with your local guide to provide you with the most comprehensive, comfortable and caring experience available in Cuba.
