Morgan's Rock, Nicaragua
Stunning ocean-view bungalows and barefoot luxury on a private tropical beach, set within a 4,000-acre nature reserve, define the Morgan's Rock experience. The award-winning ecolodge is a 15-bungalow hideaway nestled into the jungle along a mile-long sandy beach that's frequented year-round by nesting sea turtles. Each bungalow includes a private terrace where guests may enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of wine at sunset, or take a nap on a queen-size day bed suspended by thick marine rope, lulled by the sea breezes. Adding an authentic touch to the rooms is the artwork of Nicaraguan artist Augusto Silva, which features designs inspired by indigenous civilizations of Nicaragua, specifically the Tunu. The bungalows are designed to make guests feel at one with nature while creating minimal impact on the surrounding environment. Each three-sided bungalow is perched on a cliff 30-100 feet above the private beach and cove, accessible via a 50-yard suspension bridge through the jungle.
Nearly half of the vast property is a government-designated nature reserve that shelters a multitude of wildlife including spider, howler and capuchin monkeys, deer, reptiles, and many native and migrant birds. The rest is low-impact agricultural land and sustainable tropical forestland. When we aren't out looking for wildlife on nature walks, guests may opt to lounge in a hammock under the shade of the thatched palapa (beach hut), rejuvenate with an early-morning yoga session, or hike to some of the best outlooks in the area to admire the fiery sunset over the Pacific. Meals are a highlight in the hacienda's outdoor restaurant. Thanks to a large working farm with cows, chickens, organic fruit and vegetable gardens, and even a sustainable shrimp farm, Morgan’s Rock sources roughly 60 percent of its food from agricultural activities right on the premises. Guests are welcome to lend a hand collecting eggs or milking the cows.
Owned and run by the Poncon family, Morgan’s Rock is a 2-hour drive from Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, on the country's southern Pacific coast. The mission of Morgan’s Rock is to provide guests with relaxation in nature and an authentic local experience. Morgan's Rock is committed to the conservation of Nicaragua’s vital ecosystems and wildlife, as well as cultural preservation and community involvement.
