Location of Adventure
Costa Rica, Central America
Group Size Limit
Approximately 10 Travelers
A very important feature of our Costa Rican ecotours is the limited group size, as intimate nature expeditions are best experienced with smaller numbers of travelers.
Our Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land Cruisers
Our Private Leaders
Included
All transportation and activities as described in the itinerary including the internal flight from Tortuguero to San José, accommodations, meals from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on the final day, soft drinks with meals and purified drinking water with meals and activities, services of NHA Expedition Leader, local guides and lodge staff, airport transfers on Day 1 and the final day, most gratuities, all permits, entrance fees and taxes.
Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, laundry, etc.), airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance.
Physical Requirements
Easy to Moderate
This adventure does not require a high degree of physical fitness, though our days in Costa Rica generally start quite early and are very full with activities. In order to explore the trails and hanging bridges at Arenal & Monteverde, travelers must be able to walk unassisted for 1-2 miles over uneven terrain, potentially muddy and slippery surfaces, and inclines and with some altitude gain.  This itinerary includes a number of short- to medium-length walks over a variety of terrain, including gravel, pavement, boardwalks and dirt trails, and sometimes over roots and rocks (note that all walks can be be more difficult to navigate during inclement weather). Travelers should be aware that the heat and humidity may be very high and roads may be bumpy. We stress that all activities are optional.
Important Information About This Trip
Costa Rica encompasses some of the earth’s greatest natural treasures. This adventure focuses on the “jewels” – the most spectacular natural highlights – within this beautiful country. Our Expedition Leader and driver accompany our small groups to remote areas that reveal the splendors of the rain forest and cloud forest. Fairly long drives are a necessity on this trip.
