- Travel up the Karawari River to one of the most isolated and pristine tracts of wilderness on earth, visiting traditional villages by small boat

Group Size Limit
Approximately 8 travelers
A very important feature of this adventure vacation is the limited group size as nature expeditions are best experienced with smaller groups of travelers.
Included
Internal flights from Ambua to Karawari, from Karawari to Mt. Hagen and from Mt. Hagen to Madang, accommodations, meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on the final day, bottled water, services of NHA Expedition Leader, local guides and lodge staff, most gratuities, airport transfers on arrival, permits and entrance fees, government fees and taxes.
Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, internal flights to and from Port Moresby, alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees, additional optional activities (offered at some lodges), items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, required medical evacuation insurance and optional travel insurance.
Physical Requirements
Moderate to Difficult / Flexible
This trip involves a number of short- to medium-length walks over rough, slippery, uneven terrain with some steep inclines. Many of the areas visited offer little shade or protection and can be subject to the full intensity of the climatic conditions. There are two full-day snorkeling excursions available and we will be in and out of boats and small planes frequently. There are occasions during which we will travel by canoe over flat waters. Your local guide will do the paddling, though for your safety, these activities do require a certain degree of mobility and balance. Road conditions are variable and drives can be quite bumpy. All activities are optional.
Important Information
Our Wild Papua New Guinea trip is an Exploratory Adventure. Exploratory Adventures are programs in which a select small group of travelers joins us on an exhilarating inaugural journey to a new destination. While Exploratory Adventures tend to be very exciting (and often include surprises of which even we are unaware), we ask travelers to “go with the flow” and expect the unexpected. These adventures are for those true explorers who enjoy a free-spirited adventure, as the itinerary will most likely continue to change and develop. This flexibility in our itinerary allows us to provide the best travel opportunities within each region. Exploratory Adventures may be canceled by NHA if we deem it necessary, and they require a minimum of five travelers to guarantee departure. We hope you will join us as we explore a truly thrilling new adventure off the beaten path!
Getting There & Getting Home
Please schedule flights to arrive in Port Moresby in time for a 7pm Welcome Dinner on Day 1. You may depart Port Moresby any time after 10:30am on the final day. Please note that the costs for internal flights departing and entering Port Moresby (Day 2 and Day 11, respectively), are not included in the cost of your trip. We are able to secure much lower fares on these internal flights for travelers if we book them in conjunction with your international flights. At the time of booking, our Travel Desk will contact you to make these reservations for you.
