Wild Colorado - New Trip!

Explore the vast wilderness of Colorado discovering pristine mountains, lakes and historic towns!

Trip Overview
  • Listen for bugling elk amid golden aspen during a Rocky Mountain National Park autumn
  • Overnight at a secluded mountain chalet in the historic 10th Mountain Division hut system
  • Traverse the Continental Divide amid some of the highest alpine landscapes in North America

With 53 summits over 14,000 feet – known locally as ‘Fourteeners’ -- Colorado deserves its reputation as “Top of the Rockies.” It’s a challenge to create an itinerary that captures the best of such a vast and superlative mountain realm, but this one surely does. We take you up and over jaw-dropping passes, down into glacial-carved valleys, along snow-fed rivers, and through mountain meadows home to elk and bear. Bighorn sheep canter along rocky escarpments, and eagles soar over stands of quaking aspen. Colorado’s Rocky Mountains are legendary, and for good reason. Come with us, and discover for yourself.

Location of Adventure

Colorado, USA

Group Size Limit: Approximately 12 travelers
A very important feature of our trips is the limited group size, as nature expeditions are best experienced with smaller groups of travelers. Our Colorado group tour is no exception.

Included
Accommodations, meals from dinner day 1 to breakfast final day, bottled water, services of NHA Expedition Leaders, most gratuities, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, permits and entrance fees, all taxes.

Not Included

Travel to and from start and end point of trip, alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance.

Physical Requirements
Moderate / Flexible
Our hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park require moderate physical exertion. Some gain in altitude is required in some locations, and hikes generally range from one to four miles. However, travelers are not required to participate in all excursions, and much of the park can be observed from roadways and our lodges. Guests who would like to participate in longer hikes may have the opportunity to take additional optional hikes at their leisure.

Important Information about This Trip

This adventure reveals some of the most striking scenery in all of North America. In the company of our insightful guides, our small group gains access to a unique and beautiful side of Colorado that many tourists miss. From a remote 10th Mountain Division cabin to the historic mountain villages of Aspen and Leadville, our Expedition Leaders will share a week of alpine splendor not found anywhere else on the continent.

Getting There & Getting Home
Plan to arrive in Denver in time for a welcome dinner and orientation at approximately 7pm on Day 1. The transfer from Denver International Airport to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, so early flights are recommended. On the final day of the program you are free to depart Aspen at any time. Please note that the arrival and departure cities are not the same.

Wolves & Wildlife of Yellowstone
A classic safari tracking wolves, moose, elk, bears and other wildlife.

Glacier National Park
A small-group, guided nature adventure to Glacier's best wildlife spots.
