Secluded Botswana Safari

A Small-Group Wildlife Adventure into the Heart of the African Wilderness
Botswana is one of the last unspoiled corners of Africa. It is a stable country, committed to preserving its natural heritage and wildlife habitats. One-sixth of its territory is dedicated to permanent, well-managed game sanctuaries.Your adventure begins by road and by ferry as you make your way to Chobe National Park, known for its big game and large population of elephants — over seventy thousand!Set under knobthorn acacia trees with a view of the waterways, the Linyanti camp is reminiscent of the bygone era of Africa’s great days of exploration. The spacious walk-in tents allow you to feel more connected to nature. Brass-bucket showers and basins, bush laundry service, and flush toilets are among the many comforts. While in the Linyanti private tented camp, you'll be able to watch as elephants pass by to refresh themselves in the area's widespread waterways.Your Expedition Leader is intimately familiar with Botswana's wildlife and cultures and is committed to making your African adventure one of a kind.Savuti Camp is one of the most exciting camps in all of Africa, providing views of wildlife from eye-level "hides" that allow you to get just feet from the animals, particularly elephants. The Savuti Channel, a strange waterway that seems to have a mind of its own, bisects Chobe National Park. The Savuti Camp water hole attracts a wide range of wildlife. That, in turn, brings one of Africa's largest concentrations of lions.Herds of zebras and giraffes can be seen in Savuti. The giraffe has one of the shortest sleep requirements of any mammal, which is between ten minutes and two hours in a twenty-four-hour period. This has led to the myth that giraffes cannot lie down. Our four-wheel drive vehicles take us off the beaten path and close to the action. You'll fly to Jacana Camp, located in the heart of the famed Okavango Delta, the world's largest inland delta. By "mokoro," a traditional dugout canoe, you'll see some of Africa's rarest wildlife, including wattled cranes and both species of jacanas.A charter flight over the Okavango Delta reveals a new perspective on its maze of canals and lagoons. (C) Michael PolizaNight drives at the Tubu Tree Camp in the Okavango Delta will reveal yet another aspect of Africa. You'll have a chance to see nocturnal hunters and large predators such as civet cats, caracals, leopards, cheetahs, and lions on the prowl. In Moremi Game Reserve, keep your eyes open for tree climbing leopards who often escape the heat of the day by lounging in trees.A host of plains bird life can be spotted at the Tubu Tree Camp. This lilac-breasted roller is an inhabitant of dry, open brush and wooded areas and preys on lizards, invertebrates, and even small birds. The roller is unbothered by people, allowing you to get some very close-up shots. The open grasslands, dry forest, and shallow floodplains of Tubu Tree Camp ensure diverse game viewing. The giraffe is the tallest of all land-living animal species. A giraffe's heart has to generate double the normal blood pressure for an average large mammal in order to maintain blood flow to the brain against gravity. On game drives in open 4X4 vehicles we may encounter wildlife big and small from elephants and lions to wild dog and warthogs.Wild dogs are always an exciting spotting, as they are such beautiful and charismatic creatures.More than a mile wide, Victoria Falls is the most expansive curtain of water in the world, plummeting more than 300 feet into the Zambezi Gorge. Image (C) Wilderness SafarisEndless horizons, unforgettable wilderness, splendid waterways. Botswana is the place where desert and delta co-exist, and where you hope time stands still, if only for a moment.
