Location of Adventure
Botswana, Southern Africa
Group Size Limit
Approximately 7 Travelers
A very important feature of our Botswana safari is the small group size, as African safaris are best experienced with fewer travelers in order to enhance intimate encounters with wildlife and nature.
Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land Cruisers
An essential element of this safari is our use of specialized 4x4 vehicles, facilitating unmatched wildlife viewing opportunities. Typically, we use open 4x4 Land Rovers, with a unique suspension system and an open-top, open-sided, tiered seating arrangement designed to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities and comfort. On occasion, we will use 4x4 Stretch Land Cruisers with a similar design. During the green season, it is common to have a shade net over the vehicle to provide sun protection and cover during the rains. This protective net comes off during the cooler summer months in Botswana to allow the sun to warm us on morning and afternoon drives.

The vehicle has nine cushioned passenger seats, one in front next to the driver, followed by two rows of three seats each and a row of two seats at the back, though we limit our capacity to just seven travelers in the vehicle. Vehicles have a mini fridge stocked with cold drinks, a small library with reference books and field guides, and ponchos for each traveler in case of rain. This custom-built vehicle sports front bull bars and runner boards, as well as a full recovery kit, including spare tires and a high lift jack. Vehicles are updated or replaced regularly and meticulously maintained to provide our guests with an unmatched safari experience.
Our Private Leaders
Included
Internal scheduled light aircraft flights, accommodations, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, all meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on final day, non-alcoholic drinks at camps and in vehicles, house alcoholic beverages in camps, laundry in camps, services of NHA Expedition Leader, local guides and lodge staff, some gratuities, all permits, entrance fees and taxes.
Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, premium alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance, and required medical evacuation insurance.
Physical Requirements
Easy
This safari involves no strenuous activity, though a safari vehicle frequently offers a bumpy ride. Wildlife drives often involve long hours of sitting and sometimes bouncing around. While we don't consider this strenuous, it can be uncomfortable and may pose a particular type of physical demand on the body. All travelers must be able to climb into and out of raised 4x4 safari trucks. They must also be able to walk to and from the vehicle to our camp accommodations, sometimes walking over uneven ground or on boardwalks. Additionally, while any short walks are considered optional, you will get the most out of your safari experience if you can walk a mile or two over uneven ground without assistance. Safari accommodations and vehicles are not climate controlled and, depending on the seasonality, temperatures can range from quite cold to extremely hot so it is critical that travelers come prepared. We recommend that all travelers have an adventurous spirit, as they will often enjoy the closest animal encounters.
Important Information About This Trip
This trip is designed for those guests whose African dreams include the most remote wildlife experience available in comfortable bush accommodations. On our Botswana Explorer Safari, changes to the itinerary may occur in order to take advantage of conditions unique to the season. Depending upon availability, itineraries may run in a different order.
Mandatory Insurance
Since the areas we travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for our guests' safety. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat, we request that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We will add the cost of a medical evacuation policy to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, contact number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.
Getting There & Getting Home
Please plan to arrive in Livingstone, Zambia by 1 pm on Day 1 and you may depart Maun, Botswana anytime after 1:30 pm on the final day.

We can best serve you if our Natural Habitat Adventures Travel Desk makes your reservations, as our staff is intimately familiar with the special requirements of these programs and can arrange the most efficient travel. Please call us at 1-800-543-8917.
