Custom Southern Africa Safari

Create a Personalized Safari of Your Dreams
Shower beneath the stars in the Okavango Delta; dine under classic, bamboo-thatch roofs while overlooking the savannah; and sleep on the water in a luxury, floating cabin in the shadows of the Zambezi Valley Escarpment. Your Custom Southern Africa Safari will take you to the most remote areas by charter aircraft. Best of all, you'll follow the animals of Africa! The Okavango Delta is one of the most astonishing wildlife sites in the world. Crystal-clear waters flow southward into the Kalahari, creating an oasis amid the dry, desert environs. The delta provides a seasonal habitat to numerous species, including elephants, lechwes, wildebeests, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, hippopotamuses, and …… buffaloes. Known as one of the "Big Five" in Africa, cape buffaloes are very powerful creatures, demanding respect from even a pride of lions when paths cross. It typically takes multiple lions to bring down a single adult buffalo.Your Expedition Leaders are knowledgeable in the area's flora and fauna and will ensure your individually-designed African safari is the journey of your dreams. While in the Chobe/Savuti/Linyanti region, just north of the Okavango Delta, you'll stay at an exclusive, small-group camp. You'll encounter some of Africa's most exhilarating wildlfe. Elephants thrive here — over seventy thousand! — as do zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, hyenas, wild dogs, leopards, lions, and cheetahs.Chobe National Park is the second largest national park in Botswana. It's famous for its predators, particulaly its resident lions. The roar of a lion is audible for miles and serves to indicate that an area is occupied. The females do most of the hunting; and despite the fact that the males play little part in most kills, they feed before the females.Game drives in our four-wheel drive vehicles offer the opportunity to witness nature close up with comfort and safety in mind. The cheetah is the fastest of all land animals and is able to accelerate from zero to seventy miles per hour in three seconds. Adaptations that enable the cheetah to run as fast as it does include large nostrils that allow for optimal oxygen intake and an enlarged heart and lungs that work together to circulate oxygen efficiently. The open grasslands of the Chobe region are fantastic landscapes for viewing giraffes. The giraffe is the tallest of all land-living animal species. A giraffe's heart has to generate double the normal blood pressure for an average large mammal in order to maintain blood flow to the brain against gravity. In Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, there are more elephants per square mile than any other area in Africa. Buffaloes, sables, giraffes, lions, leopards, wild dogs, cheetahs, and monkeys may be viewed from your open Land Rover and on privately guided safari walks. All of Zimbabwe's protected animals are can be found in Hwange, and it is the only protected area where gemsboks and brown hyenas occur in significant numbers. Your Expedition Leader will guide you on day and night walks. The population of wild dogs in Hwange is thought to be of one of the largest surviving groups in Africa today. African wild dogs hunt in packs, focusing on medium-sized ungulates such as impalas. Like most members of the dog family, they are cursorial hunters, pursuing their prey in a long, open chase, rather than relying on stealth as most members of the cat family. They may reach speeds of up to forty-five miles per hour. Members of a pack vocalize to help coordinate their movements, using a chirping or squeaking sound, similar to a bird.Following the animals of Africa is a singular, intimate adventure when you design your own fly-in, Custom Southern Africa Safari. Make your visit to Africa's wildest areas the trip of a lifetime — yours!
