Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, built using local natural materials, is set among lush vegetation at the base of the Virunga mountain range just outside the entrance to Volcanoes National Park and the park headquarters, where all gorilla treks commence. Surrounded by gardens and within full view of a nearby volcano summit, the lodge offers simple yet welcoming accommodations in 20 individual cottages constructed of brick and tile. The cottages are spacious and adequately furnished; each has an en suite bathroom with a shower. Due to the altitude it can sometimes be quite cold, and each cottage has a fireplace to take the edge off the evening chill (wood and charcoal provided on request). The lodge has electricity and hot water supplied by a generator (which runs sporadically throughout the day). The main area has a basic bar and restaurant.
