Chateau Mere opened in 2011 near Telavi, the main city of Kakheti, Georgia’s wine-producing region, just over an hour's drive east from the Georgia's capital of Tbilisi. Surrounded by vineyards, the stone castle with four pointed towers and classic wooden balconies offers a sophisticated mix of Georgia's ancient architectural styles with contemporary interior decor and amenities. Fifteen spacious guest rooms feature gleaming hardwood floors, brightly painted stucco walls, elegant antique furniture, wrought iron beds with luxurious all-cotton duvets and bedding, en suite bathrooms, flat screen TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, and panoramic views of the Caucasus Mountains and Alzani Valley. The chateau is operated by the Winiveria winery, established in 2005, and is one of Georgia's first agritourism attractions. Excellent Georgian food and wines from the estate are served in the on-site restaurant. Winiveria's dry red and white wines made from endemic Georgian grape varieties are produced using ancient Kakhetian and contemporary European technologies.
