NHA Philosophy
Our Philosophy on Travel in Africa
Whether your dream is to explore the plains of the Serengeti during 'the Great Migration' or sit quietly among a family of mountain gorillas deep in the forests of Uganda, Natural Habitat Adventures can take you there. Our philosophy in Africa is simple; take small groups of travelers off-the-beaten path for up close encounters with the famed wildlife of Africa. We utilize the most intimate camps and lodges and have assembled a collection of the finest safari leaders in the business to ensure your African safari is the adventure of your lifetime.
Our Philosophy on Travel in America
Because we believe that America’s unspoiled expanses of wilderness and its magnificent wildlife rival those found anywhere else on Earth, we are proud to offer our guests an exclusive collection of life-enhancing American nature travel experiences. Here, at home, we pursue travel in a remote and secluded manner, staying in unique lodges that help to provide uncommon wildlife encounters. In the company of our trained Expedition Leaders, who collectively track wildlife on a daily basis and keep in close contact with the scientists who study some of our most remarkable species, our guests are afforded captivating encounters unavailable to the casual tourist.
Our Philosophy on Viewing Polar Bears in the Wild
Few nature adventures equal the thrill of an up-close encounter with polar bears in their natural habitat. Our small-group expeditions to Churchill, Manitoba – the Polar Bear Capital of the World – get you closer to more polar bears, in exceptional comfort and safety, than any other option out there. Each fall, the world’s greatest concentration of polar bears convenes at the edge of Hudson Bay, waiting for the ice to form and the feeding season to begin. With our world-renowned Expedition Leaders, we track them in custom-built Polar Rovers, newly constructed and specially designed for travel across the tundra. Every traveler has a personal window seat, and our heated vehicles also have an outdoor observation deck with a steel mesh floor, allowing curious bears to come safely within inches of us – an incredible and exclusive experience. Or, for the ultimate immersion in the kingdom of the polar bear, stay at our strategically placed, private Tundra Lodge beneath the dancing northern lights!
Our Philosophy on Travel in The North
In the North, vast expanses of tundra and ice meet with Arctic waters and northern temperate rainforests, creating an uncommon wealth of natural riches. This sometimes harsh environment hosts a series of fleeting, seasonal wildlife events equaled by few on Earth, from the migration of the mighty polar bear to the congregation of grizzlies in British Columbia’s salmon-rich rivers to Eastern Canada's endless ice floes where 250,000 adorable harp seal pups await. Our unique itineraries are carefully designed to allow travelers to bear witness to these remarkable happenings at close range, each trip led by one of our staff Expedition Leaders, dedicated to sharing a passion for the northland.
Our Philosophy on Travel in the Galapagos
In the Galapagos, wildlife is unique indeed, as indigenous animals found nowhere else on the planet approach us without fear. Blue-footed boobies perform a remarkable mating dance at our feet, sea lions swim joyfully around us, and prehistoric-looking iguanas pose for photos as they sun themselves along volcanic shores. Through our team of highly experienced Galapagos Expedition Leaders, the mysteries and complexities of these enchanting islands will be unraveled. Aboard our small group, privately chartered vessels – the best in the islands – we journey into the past, immersing ourselves in these isles much as Charles Darwin did over 150 years ago.
Our Philosophy on Travel in Antarctica
For many adventurers and nature enthusiasts Antarctica is the ultimate destination. Here lie unparalleled opportunities for discovery and exploration against a backdrop of towering blue glaciers, shorelines dotted with penguins as far as the eye can see, and azure waters teeming with whales and seals. Our philosophy in Antarctica is simple: the most intimate and thrilling wildlife encounters can only be experienced in small groups under the guidance of the world’s premier Expedition Leaders. When we combine these elements our guests are assured of an Antarctic travel experience beyond that which can be achieved in
larger groups.
Our Philosophy on Travel in The Pacific
For thousands of years, western cultures have speculated about rare historical and cultural Pacific riches. To us, as nature travelers, these riches go beyond those wonderful sites that are a “must see”. In eastern China we invite you into the heart of a pristine wilderness reserve to come face-to-face with the area’s famed giant pandas. Or, journey with us to New Zealand’s wild, glacier-carved South Island, home to a plethora of unique and inspirational marine species. Bhutan, our newest expedition, reveals the best of this Himalayan kingdom’s sacred and natural wonders. On these carefully arranged adventures, our expert Expedition Leaders thoughtfully illuminate the Pacific’s true riches – its natural splendors and unique wildlife.
Our Philosophy on Travel in Latin America
From Latin America’s tropical latitudes to its snowy southern peaks, wildlife treasures hide behind every tree, raging waterfalls cascade within towering rainforests, and lush cloud forests host endless wildlife, from howling monkeys to millions of monarch butterflies, to 30-ton gray whales nurturing their young. Here, our philosophy is simple: the best travel experiences are a result of the smallest groups, the best Expedition Leaders and the most remote lodges. To that end, our professional staff of naturalist guides take our intimate groups to some of the most remote wildlife spots, from an orca whale lodge on Patagonia's rocky shores to a luxury tented camp in Costa Rica's cloudforest highlands to a rainforest resort which is home to more species than any other known to mankind.
Our Philosophy on Expedition Voyages
Expedition cruising allows us to access some of the world’s most remote and wild areas, inaccessible by land or air. In some of the most inhospitable corners of our globe we can comfortably and safely enjoy the world’s most elusive wildlife and stunning natural beauty. On our Expedition Voyages, we charter ships that accommodate the smallest practical group sizes and outfit them with only the most knowledgeable and experienced Expedition Leaders. By doing so, we guarantee our travelers the most intimate and rewarding experiences that nature has to offer.
Our Philosophy on Family Adventures
Traveling with family can be one of life’s greatest pleasures. No activity provides more opportunity to connect with loved ones and create powerful and cherished memories. Our Family Adventures take you to some of our planet’s most spectacular nature destinations and have been designed to remove the worry and stress that many associate with the typical family vacation. Our itineraries are expertly designed to ensure that each member of your family, regardless of age or ability, has the adventure of a lifetime.
